POD, i.e. Perioral dermatitis, rash around the mouth

Perioral dermatitis (POD) is most commonly characterized by red, itchy bumps around the mouth and nose. The bumps are persistent and do not seem to heal on their own.

The exact cause of POD is not known, but it is in the same family of diseases as rosacea. Some corticosteroids are known to worsen perioral dermatitis, as are large temperature fluctuations and UV radiation from the sun.

POD treatment is done with gentle skin care products with few ingredients. Avoid cleansers that contain alcohol and products that contain sulfates. Also, do not clog your pores with too thick creams.
