The unique benefits of bladderwrack as a raw material for cosmetics

Recent studies have shown that an extract from bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus) can promote the contraction of fibroblast-enriched collagen gels, which occurs through the expression of integrin molecules. In this study, researchers investigated the effects of topical application of an aqueous extract of bladderwrack on the thickness and elasticity of human skin. A skin care gel containing 1% of the extract was applied to the skin of the cheek twice daily for five weeks.

The result was a significant thinning of the skin, as measured by B-mode ultrasound, and a significant improvement in elasticity, as measured by the Cutometer, compared to the control group. Since the thickness of the cheek skin generally increases and its elasticity decreases with age, the results suggest that the bladderwrack extract has anti-aging properties. This makes it a promising ingredient for the development of various cosmetic products.

How do you use eye cream?

Apply a small amount of the cream to the eye area morning and evening using the roll-on bottle. Gently roll the cream onto the skin and pat gently until absorbed. The eye cream is also great under makeup, creating an even and moisturized base. This eye cream not only nourishes your skin, but also makes your moments luxurious and soothing.

Responsible collection of bladderwrack

Utilizing Storm-Blasted Seaweed Our Storm-Blasted Seaweed skincare range does not use cultivated, intensively produced seaweed, but only utilizes storm- and sea-born seaweed. We collect it by hand or by diving from the shores of the Bothnian Sea, when nature gives it to us. This means that the availability of the raw material is limited, and production cannot be increased according to demand. This is what makes the range truly exclusive and unique.

Our combined extracts utilize our own extraction methods, which allow us to extract the diverse nutrients and bioactive compounds from bladderwrack very efficiently. This is the first time that such an effective, scientifically based skin care product has been made from Finnish bladderwrack, and it is manufactured from scratch in our own factory in Perniö.

Saaren Taika is one of the few Finnish cosmetics brands that has its own laboratory-based product development and manufacturing under one roof. We develop and manufacture the majority of our products ourselves, based on our own research and vision.
